Mni Wičhóni: Honoring Standing Rock

This year marks the 10th anniversary of the momentous events at Standing Rock and the beginnings of the Mni Wičhóni (Water is Life) movement, which began with a small encampment of indigenous water protectors on the banks of the Missouri River in North Dakota, praying that a new oil pipeline across the river would not be built, and culminated in thousands of people of all races coming together in the depths of winter in non-violent solidarity with the water protectors. In September of 2016, Rev. Florence Caplow, then one of the QUUF ministers, organized a small group from QUUF and beyond to travel to Standing Rock. Later that year others from QUUF traveled there too. Some of us who were at Standing Rock will reflect on what is still in our hearts from that experience, ten years later, and how each of us sees our work now in this challenging time.
