From the Interim

One of the best things about being a UU transitional minister is time spent with colleagues. It’s lifegiving to hang with people whose journey and call have led them to this stripe of ministry.

Earlier this week I joined fifteen or so interim colleagues for a primer on our new online hymnal, “Sing Out Love.” The process that brought forth this shift in how we do music in our Association was far more inclusive than all that came before. Some of the most popular material from previous hymnals and supplements is there, but “Sing Out Love” is a true update.

As to the actual content, the new hymnal is intentionally a work in progress: New material is added on a regular basis, most of it from within our UU circles. It doesn’t get more organic than that.

Better yet, everything in the hymnal falls within in current copyright. Everything there – everything to come – can be projected, even printed at will!

The submission process is simple, even for those of us who don’t read music. In that case all we need is a smartphone recording. Amazing.

Your QUUF Music Team subscribed to “Sing Out Love” earlier this year, and have only scraped the surface. But it’s exciting to know our denomination’s music is increasingly in synch with other major shifts in how we “do” Unitarian Universalism.
