The talented, local musicians, Jill and Kevin, will share their music with us. Although gifted in a host of styles, they’ll join Don in exploring some of the most popular hymns/songs from the gospel traditions.
Swing Music Comes to QUUF!
This Sunday QUUF welcomes the local band, Jill and Kevin (and friends) to our sanctuary. This Sunday’s service will feature their unique brand of swing, country, blues and gospel.
Jill McAnally began performing at age 16, and was called onstage to sit in with guitar great Doc Watson. She opened for country rock band “Burrito Brothers” and even won an episode of the network “Gong Show. Her voice and steady guitar form the basis for the Jill and Kevin sound.
Kevin McConnell has been part of Western swing bands since age 10. He played with a nine-piece Western swing band until 10 years ago, when he and Jill became a duo. His always tasteful guitar brings their music to life.
Thom Barkes was born and raised in West Seattle, and has played bass guitar in Western swing ensembles for nearly 50 years. Along the way he picked up the dobro, steel guitar and resonator lap steel.
Claudia Neva has lived in Port Townsend since 1974, and played with multiple local bands. She undertook violin at an early age, then branched out to fiddle tunes and other music genres. In addition to her fiddle work, Claudia adds lovely vocal harmonies to the mix.
Make sure you join us for some classic gospels and Jill and Kevin originals!
