From the Interim

“Change means movement. Movement means friction. Only in the frictionless vacuum…can movement or change occur without that abrasive friction of conflict.” – Saul Alinsky
There is an unease within your congregation right now. For some, that’s a mild description of what you’re experiencing.
For those who are just learning about this phase of earlier internal conflicts, the issues have to do with QUUF-related music videos, and their use for an organization born of the wider schism within Unitarian Universalist Association.
Back to this painful stage of conflict QUUF, for the past several weeks your Board and I have been wrestling with the question at both the organizational personal levels: How to meet our responsibilities as first-line caretakers for QUUF’s stated mission, values and documents? And how to meet those obligations in keeping with the Covenant of Right Relations?
As I’ve mentioned elsewhere, there were errors in communication as your Board and I took the lead in addressing the issues surrounding the music videos. We’ve since addressed them, but mistakes were made.
Know that members of QUUF’s Healthy Congregation Team is in the loop as the conflict management process continues. Same with our UUA resources: QUUF is among the congregations offered extra care, meaning that trained staff are even more available to help.
Meanwhile, join me in taking the “balcony view” I’ve been mentioning. Healthy congregations are not immune from struggles and strife, but they do find a way to work them through. QUUF is a healthy congregation.
