Director of Religious Education (DRE)

Purpose: To direct the Children and Youth Religious Education program of the fellowship.

Job description and specific duties:

  1. Administration

    • review curriculum and make recommendations
    • maintain records for registration, attendance
    • filing and distribution of all pertinent material
    • maintain library and other sources
    • prepare, implement and monitor budget
    • prepare and monitor yearly calendar
    • set goals and philosophy
    • prepare agenda items for CYRE committee meetings
    • supervise RE Assistant, YRUU leaders and childcare providers

  2. Classroom/YRUU support

    • recruit/schedule/coordinate teachers/assistants/advisors
    • coordinate playgroup/nursery
    • train teachers/advisors
    • nurture and support teachers/advisors (recognition, regular contact, provide tapes of services, etc.)

  3. Publicize and communicate

    • prepare/publish/distribute brochure
    • communicate and coordinate with board, Sunday services committee, social justice committee, minister
    • promote RE (newsletter, announcements, parent letters, newspaper)
    • filing and distributing letters, reports, articles

  4. Promote community building

    • assist families in engaging in activities
    • organize intergenerational events, social and worship
    • recruit and assist new families
    • social justice-WAVE, GAYT, AIDS walk, Earth Day, etc
    • plan RE gathering during worship
    • parent workshops

  5. Denominational Activities

    • keep abreast of new resources, curricula, educational philosophy, etc.
    • attend district meetings/workshops/training
    • network with other DREs and District consultants
