Purpose: To promote new membership and enhance the retention of current members. To welcome visitors and orient new members into the life of the congregation.Membership: The committee shall consist of a chairperson appointed in a manner consistent with Bylaws Articles VII, Section 1(a) and Article VIII, Section 1(b). .
Responsibilities:
- Provide greeters and an information table at each Sunday service. Welcome visitors and direct them to the information table to sign the visitors' book and fill out nametags. Be available during coffee hour to provide information about UU, QUUF and to introduce visitors to members.
- Maintain a visitor database. Follow up on visitors: send cards, call, invite to QUUF events and newcomer orientations. Send the newsletter for 3 months if requested. (A $25 annual "subscription" may be requested after 4 - 6 months.)
- In collaboration with the minister, conduct newcomer orientations as needed; traditionally these have been held in fall, winter and spring. Collect information for the database, committee chairs, and newsletter. Assist the minister in welcoming new members at a service. Provide badge and directories to new members.
- Arrange for an informal reception for new members to meet board members, committee chairs and others. Contact new members after 3 months and again in a year.
- After the canvass, work with the office, DRE, canvass chair and others to update the list of members and friends. Maintain a current Fellowship Directory of Members and Friends, updating changes in address, etc. Contact members whose participation may be waning. Arrange to remove members from the role if appropriate. Submit an accurate membership list to the board secretary for the annual meeting and all elections and UUA report.
- Volunteer Coordinating is a Membership Committee responsibility and includes the following:
- Periodically update member interests and skills for the database
- Secure interest and skills data from new members for the database.
- Help new members "get started" in QUUF, finding an area such as a task.
- Provide committee chairs information about new members' skills and interests.
- The Friendship Suppers coordinator, appointed by the president to facilitate an active program of suppers, is a member of this committee. A goal of the suppers is to integrate potential and new members into the congregation. The coordinator will consult with and report to the membership committee but generally act independently.
