DRE Relations Committee

Purpose To strengthen the quality of QUUF's Religions Education program, the DRE Relations Committee serves as a personal and professional support mechanism for the Director of Religious Education, and as liaison between the DRE and the congregation. The committee offers this support through advocacy and by providing a forum to relay negative and positive information from the congregation to the DRE in a constructive manner.

Membership: The committee shall consist of a chairperson appointed in a manner consistent with Bylaws Articles VII, Section 1(a) and Article VIII, Section 1(b).

Objectives:

  1. To discuss with the DRE conditions in the RE program and in the total congregation as they affect the relationship between the DRE and church families, and the congregation in general.
  2. To work with the DRE on his/her plans for continuing education and other professional development, and to advocate such plans and funding for them to the Board and the congregation.

  3. To assist in the establishment of goals for the DRE, and to submit a proposal for the DRE's annual compensation to the Finance committee and Board.

Procedure for dialogue between members of the congregation and the DRE:

If a member of the congregation approaches a committee member with a concern regarding the DRE, the committee member

  1. Will explore the issue, not giving answers.

  2. Encourage the congregation member to speak directly with the DRE and volunteer to accompany the person speaking with the DRE.

  3. Report interactions at the next DRE Relations committee meeting. There will be follow-up by another committee member after the space of a few weeks, as needed.
