Kate Lore, Assistant Minister
August 15, 2017 – We are pleased to announce that the Assistant Minister Selection Committee has enthusiastically recommended a candidate to fill the position of Assistant Minister for QUUF and that the Board has enthusiastically agreed. Allow me to introduce the Rev. Kate Lore.
Kate served the First Unitarian Church of Portland for eighteen years, conducting worship services, providing pastoral care, and directing their nationally renowned social justice program. Her ministerial responsibilities additionally included fundraising, event planning, community outreach, and staff and volunteer management. Kate has also served as president of the Pacific Northwest Chapter of the Unitarian Universalist Ministers Association and as a Human Rights Commissioner for the City of Portland. Prior to becoming a Unitarian Universalist minister, she was Director of Community Outreach at the First United Methodist Church of Portland where she developed Portland’s first overnight shelter for homeless families.
Kate brings us a wealth of experience and exuberance. For her this is an opportunity to again serve as a minister in a dynamic, religiously liberal congregation, as she has recently been heading up a non-profit organization in Portland in a non-ministerial position. And, having grown up in the small coastal community of Pacific Grove CA, she looks forward to again being part of such a community.
Kate is very excited by our decision to hire her and is eager to get to know all of us. She will be introduced to us on “Opening Sunday” September 10, when our program year resumes and we return to two services. Her first sermon is planned for the following Sunday, September 17.
