Social Action and Education Committee

Purpose: To express the mission of the fellowship in serving our larger community and our world. To inform and educate the fellowship and public in areas of social concern; to find ways and means to rectify social injustices; to sponsor and support groups organized to deal with social problems.

Membership: The committee shall consist of a chairperson appointed in a manner consistent with Bylaws Articles VII, Section 1(a) and Article VIII, Section 1(b).

Responsibilities:

  • Develop a budget to allocate the financial resources of the committee.
  • Solicit congregational approval for the use of these resources.
  • Provide opportunities for members and friends to participate in social service projects.
  • Arrange educational programs (workshops, forums, discussion series) on topics of social relevance.
  • Support the training of members in organizational and social change skills.
  • Make available to the congregation the resources of UUA social change programs. Develop appropriate contact with these programs.
  • Create alliances with community organizations involved with social justice issues.
